The model scores every runner on recent form, class, early speed, best-time credentials, box suitability and a read of the market price, blends those into a single rating, then converts the field into win and place probabilities. The full method is on the How it works page.

A trained model rates the card — a gradient-boosted ranker, blended with the live market price. A transparent hand-weighted formula (the original glass-box version) is the fallback for the rare race the trained model hasn't rated yet, so a card is never left blank.

The Backtest page is open to everyone: pick a date range and a staking plan, and it settles every selection against real results. Win bets settle at the last real bookmaker price captured before the jump — a price you could actually have taken, not the official starting price, which is only known after the race is run. Place and exotic returns are estimates unless a real place price was captured too, since we don't hold historical dividend data for those markets.

It will, often. A 30% top pick is expected to lose about 7 times in 10. Greyhound racing carries real randomness — interference, boxing, track pattern. The model aims to be right more often than the market prices, not to be right every race.
